Healthcare is successful when there is a collaboration between doctor and patient.

Danny Sands, MD, founder of the Society for Participatory Medicine, says, the collaboration’s fundamental factors are: open communication, shared decision-making, mutual respect, information sharing and engagement.

He also thinks that the patient’s passive passenger-role needs to be shifted into a responsible driver’s-role. Sands is optimistic about the future, patient-generated data, biometrics and connected devices auguring big changes in how populations track their wellness and how patients take control over their health.
